Binding 101



Learn to:
 Measure your quilt for binding
 Determine the right width binding for your quilt
 Determine how much fabric is needed for your binding
 Determine if you are best served by straight of grain or bias cut binding

 Join and press binding lengths together into one long strip

Evaluate what kind of binding is needed based on the function of the quilt Practice several types of binding for different situations, including:
 “Wrapping” the backing to the front
 Stitching double fold binding (“French Fold”) to the back of the quilt by machine and stitching in the ditch on the front
 Stitching the binding on the back by machine and stitching the binding on the front using decorative stitches
 Stitching the binding on the front and hand stitching on the back using one of two different different hand stitches
 Making perfect 90 degree corners
 Making 45 degree and other angles
 Binding curves and inside points
